WHAT'S MY GOAL?

TO ASSIST WRITERS BY WORKING ALONGSIDE THEM TO DEVELOP THEIR MATERIAL WITH A MIND FOR ITS SPECIFIC PATH AND FOR THEIR PERSONAL AMBITIONS AS A WRITER IN THE FIERCELY COMPETITIVE WORLD OF SCREENWRITING.

WHO AM I?

My name is Timothy K. Papciak, and since 2012, I’ve read hundreds of screenplays, TV scripts, and books for financiers, producers, production companies, competitions, festivals, guilds, and fellowships, and my opinion is highly regarded among many influential Los Angeles-based companies, as well as with international film financiers and content creators.

I’m happy to now offer those same services to aspiring, and professional, writers looking to improve their material before unleashing it onto the world—or simply to understand how it will be received by industry professionals.

I’ve worked for over a half dozen clients in the past—including the Writers Guild of America, West—but many of them had me sign non-disclosure agreements, which forbids me from revealing this information publicly. A full list of my past clients is available upon request.

Though I’m enthusiastic to help writers give their script its best chance in anyway they desire, I, unfortunately, cannot send anyone’s material along to any of my clients at this time.

What services do I offer?

  • Proofread and Polish

  • $100
  • Another set of eyes will be focused on your nearly-finished script, with careful regard of the structure and language, as well as the final touches to make sure that no glaring typo, grammatical nightmare, or erroneous character mistake sinks your well-crafted ship.

  • Request
  • Industry Coverage

  • $200
  • 3-5 pages showing exactly what a professional script reader/story analyst will take away from your script and pass along to their bosses. These are in-depth notes that’ll clearly relay to you how your story, your characters, your craft, and your writing will be perceived.

  • Request
  • Industry Coverage + Developmental Notes

  • $300
  • In addition to the 3-5 pages of Industry Coverage, you will also get TEN developmental notes of professional-quality to help you glimpse the fullest potential of your narrative and execute focused revisions that’ll enhance future drafts and increase your script's chance of being noticed.

  • Request

*Discounts offered for students and first-time filmmakers.

Turn around times vary but coverages and notes are often returned within two weeks. I don't accept more than ten scripts a week to ensure each script receives my undivided attention.

Why Get Coverage?

I’ve often heard people say, “Well, the reader must not have liked my script.” This couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to professional readers. I’ve read scripts that I’ve disliked about subjects I had no interest in and passed them along with a RECOMMEND designation and nothing but high praise for the material and the writer. A strong script of professional quality will rarely, if ever, be dismissed, so make sure you do all that you can before sending yours off.

ONLY TASTE IS SUBJECTIVE: THERE’S NOTHING SUBJECTIVE ABOUT SHARP WRITING OF PROFESSIONAL QUALITY.

For Aspiring Writers

Applying and submitting your screenplay to fellowships and online competitions has never been more accessible, regardless of where you are located as a writer. Unfortunately, because of this, these opportunities prompt an inordinate amount of screenplay submissions from aspiring writers and writers on the cusp of professional careers. Having read these types of scripts for clients for years, I have an intimate knowledge of just how challenging, and competitive, these coveted spots truly are. If your particular script isn’t in the best shape it could possibly be, it doesn’t stand a chance. Sorry to be harsh, but that’s the reality. The benefit of having someone with my experience read your script is twofold: you’ll end up with the best version of YOUR script, and you’ll get a rare chance to hear and see what that unknowable, faceless reader will think of your material.

For Professional Writers

Understanding the determination—be it recommend, consider, or pass—your script will elicit from a professional reader, like myself, will help immensely because, unfortunately, the readers are the gatekeepers to the agents, producers, and production companies. Agents, producers, and production companies trust and standby their readers—and the coverage they provide. Writers only have one chance with a company to get a RECOMMEND—producers and companies rarely ask for new drafts of a script to change their minds—and I’ve read scripts that were tragically underprepared for the professional arena. I’m glad I’m not in those meetings because writers often mistakenly think this is their chance to land the job, or the sale, but it’s already been decided. After all of that networking finally pays off, and you’re able to show your script to that coveted producer, it’s what’s on the page that matters.

For Filmmakers

Ever seen a truly bad movie? Ever thought, how did that script get made? Independent filmmakers face intense obstacles to getting their films made. But if somehow it comes together, by that point, the script is the least of their worries and often forgotten about. It’s situations like these where coverage and developmental notes make all the difference. Having the chance to make a film is rare, so, before putting your all into the production of your film, take the time to get an outside opinion of how this material will be received by an audience. Chances are your script is solid if it’s nearing production, but I’ve personally sat in on enough studio executive, production company, and network note calls to have witnessed just how important these last polishes are to make sure that glaring omissions are caught, and to ensure that the message of the film shines through.
